A leader isn’t someone who holds a title or position. A leader is someone who sees themselves as an integral part of the success of a community.

Several years ago, Great Lakes Capital Fund implemented an extensive leadership curriculum throughout the organization, its long-term planning, and in its day-to-day operations. Using these proven leadership concepts and tools, each staff member expanded his/her ability to lead, manage, and coach others with vision, passion, and success; which has been a strong contributing factor to the overall success of the organization.

Given the effectiveness of the program internally and also GLCF’s support of and involvement in its implementation with youth across the State of Michigan, GLCF has now created the Community Leadership department, which offers ART of Leadership Academies to individuals and groups throughout the affordable housing industry.

GLCF's Art of Leadership program is now being offered in several formats:

  • Executive Leadership Academy: Leading your organization
    • Business, Non Profit, and other Organizational Executives
  • Team Leadership Academy: Leading from within your team
    • Department managers, staff
    • Volunteer groups
  • Community Leadership Academy: Leading your community
    • Teams of youth and adults from your community
    • Youth groups
    • Mentoring agencies/programs
  • Personal Leadership Academy: Leading your life
    • Groups of individuals from within, near, or associated with affordable housing developments/agencies/programs

Participants gain skills to be an effective leader by:

  • Being empowered to create a vision for themselves
  • Creating a mission for their companies, communities, or organizations
  • Having the knowledge, ability and means to pursue the mission and goals
  • Uniting with others to create a culture that support the success and satisfaction of all
  • Successfully leading, managing, and coaching others
  • Incorporating concepts of integrity, accountability, and teamwork into their organizations, teams, or groups, as well as into their own lives
  • Expanding their view of their role as vital members of a community
  • Finding opportunities to lead others in a shared vision for the future
